ICD retreats are focused on empowering youth to embrace diabetes as a positive force in their lives.
Whether you are talking by the campfire or challenging yourself to try something new, you’ll connect with others, build lifelong friendships and focus on the skills needed to become a strong leader in the diabetes community - or just the best version of you!
We empower T1D youth to overcome obstacles and develop coping mechanisms for living with type one. With ICD's expert knowledge, enthusiastic instructors, and exciting activities you are sure to walk away with a deeper understanding of your potential.
Who This event is open to high school/post secondary students, and young adults living with type 1 diabetes, ages 14+. Those interested in bringing a friend without T1D are welcome to!

Accommodations In addition to our regular retreat agenda, with opportunities to connect and build your peer support network, and activate your leadership skills, we will be taking part in several of the Humboldt 4x4x48, an ultra marathon held annually in Humboldt. Participants WILL NOT BE RUNNING IN THE MARATHON. We will be staying at the host venue, the Humboldt Uniplex with the athletes that are racing and their support teams, to connect with and feel the support of our T1D community. There will be separate sleeping accommodation based on gender of participants, please let us know if you have any concerns with us being able to aptly accommodate your needs.
About Us ICD is a leader in exercise and diabetes, hosting thousands of type ones in everything from a fun day of sport to week-long camps and extreme challenges. We focus on how to manage diabetes effectively in the midst of real life challenges and use active programs to bring strategies to life. Support Come out and feel the support from others who understand what you are going through and will share in this learning experience. Learn something about yourself and connect with other T1Ds who understand the ins and outs of diabetes management. We can accommodate all manners of food allergy, celiac disease and many other challenges (physical and mental), so don’t be afraid to reach out and talk with our leadership team to develop a plan for an experience of a lifetime!
Diabetes Management We will meet you where you are at and support you to be your best! So don’t think your blood sugars couldn’t stand up to such an extreme challenge – our guides are experts, experienced and excited to support you on this journey.
